AKU is an Italian mountain and tactical footwear brand headquartered in Montebelluna, at the heart of the Distretto Calzaturiero del Montebellunese, the region that is the world centre of high-performance and professional footwear production. Founded in 1978, AKU originally developed alpine boots for mountaineers and professional climbers, then gradually expanded its portfolio to military and law enforcement footwear that combines the same performance credentials with specific operational requirements. The core AKU value is precise, handcrafted manufacture in Italy. Every shoe undergoes a rigorous multi-stage quality control process in the Italian factory, and the materials sourced come from the world's most reputable suppliers: Gore-Tex® membrane for waterproofing and breathability, Vibram® outsole for traction on all terrain types, Italian box calf leather for longevity and aesthetics. The integrated Gore-Tex® membrane provides absolute moisture protection without compromising breathability, high torsional ankle support prevents injuries on uneven terrain, and the Vibram® Monza outsole delivers excellent traction on wet asphalt and muddy forest floor alike. The Selvatica Mid GTX is a somewhat lower, lighter mountain boot ideal for reconnaissance, hunting and hiking, with the same Gore-Tex protection but in a more compact profile that grants greater freedom of movement.
